Wide Leg Pants - Cane Bench Print
The ANJELMS Project
Our new wide-leg pants are made from a natural rich textured mid-weight handspun, handloomed khadi cotton block printed in our soft grey Cane Bench Print and embellished with handstitched red cross-stitch. High-waisted with an elasticated back for comfort, a tie belt and some nice deep pockets. These pants will become your go-to piece for the season. Whether it is a simple tee or collared shirt or under our tie apron shift, these pants will certainly get you noticed! PS: Our top tip is to try it under the matching yoke dress for a statement outfit.
Cane Bench Print
A willow bench with an irregular knot pattern which forms a grid of hearts. The style, originating from Europe, features stylistic carvings made by craftsmen. The bench can be a sign of welcome, inviting visitors to stop in and stay. The sheer pattern which decorates the bench was understood through artists Ómra Caoimhe and Madeline Beech as they explored pattern-making through drawing and collage. What they had adapted from the original pattern adhered to the lines which formed certain heart shapes, as a focus of symbolic communication. The patterns that now adorn the garments can be worn as a symbol of love, safety, or strength, as the hearts create a visual fence around the garment; drawings cascading down the hand-loomed fabric of wooden carved hearts. Atoning to the crafts at hand.
Print designed in collaboration with Perth artists, Madeleine Beech and Ómra Caoimhe.
Designed in Fremantle, Western Australia. Made ethically in Pushkar, India by The Stitching Project.
